    December 2018

    Welcome to Issue No.40

First off, let's start by acknowledging what a great year it has been for the User Group.  We've improved again our relationship with the key operators within Open GI and at the same time been able to make a real difference to our Members.

Our recent AGM saw us welcome in a new Vice-Chairman, Tracey Filtness of Coast Insurance.  Tracey has been on the Committee for a number of years already and her knowledge, experience and cool head under pressure will really benefit the Executive.  Full details of your Committee can be found in this Newsletter should you ever want to contact us directly!

The AGM was tied into this year's Members Day which I feel was the most successful one I've been involved in so far.  Hat's off to the long suffering Barbara Pena, who once again pulled the rabbit out of the hat and chose the perfect venue for the event.  There's a recap of the day in the Newsletter, so check out what made this event so special.

Also, take a moment to see the benefits of Membership, with exclusive discounts from the Open GI Sales Team.  Maybe now is the time to upgrade your system and get some advice from other Users on our Forum.  That's just another great reason to sign up for Forum Access, here.

So, grab a coffee and take 5 minutes to see why being a User Group Member is so important and remember, we're here for you.

    Marc Pons-Burt - National Chairman

  2. Hi Peter - thanks for joining recently and sorry to hear you are having some issues replying to posts

On investigation, this was in fact an incorrect setting for that particular Forum area and for registered users in the "Member" category

This has now been corrected and you should be able to "reply" to your posts - and any other posts!! :)

Thanks for spotting this one - and taking the time to raise with us.

    Happy days :D

    Welcome to Issue No.37

In this issue the Chairman brings you up to date with what has been happening on the GDPR Issue, we draw your attention to the current deadline for the implementation of IPIDs and provide a summary of the Minutes of our Committee Meeting held in January.  In addition, we bring you news of Exclusive Membership Benefits and highlight the problems that can be encountered when relying on next day delivery of consumable items.

It is worth taking the time to click through and read these articles; you never know what nuggets of information await!

Important Open GI update to Integrated Products and Core.

The latest update of IP5.81.0 and Core 15.81A will be bringing the ability to Purge linked Open Attach records as part of your Core Purge.  This is going to be a huge time saving update, so keep a look out for it in the near future in your system messages!

As always we would love to hear from you with your experiences and suggested improvements for the Open GI system.

  5.  GDPR ISSUE

    [Extract]

    Dear Member

Thank you for the excellent response to our last minute Survey concerning the GDPR offering from Open GI.

Having received your responses, we have been able to have an open and constructive conversation with Open GI about your thoughts and that of the Committee in respect of GDPR.

It was highlighted to us that for the process of inserting the GD frame into Prospect, APM Pro is not a dependency.  While we accept this is the case, there are still, in the opinion of the Committee, additional tasks which can be performed by APM Pro, which make the GD frame more fit for purpose, especially when dealing with Core client within the Prospect system.

We have also discussed the subject fully as a Committee and would like to make the following suggestions to you, our members and fellow Brokers, which we hope will give you some options to progress your GDPR plans.

Option 1: It should go without saying but you really should discuss the purchase of the "GD" frame solution with your Open GI Account Executive.  Even if you feel you have done this previously, we urge you to revisit that conversation.

Option 2: You can produce your own Frames.  The information you need can be found within the Online Guides that Open GI produce.  However, your Committee have organised a guidance video which can be found in the Members area of the Forum, click here to see how to do it yourselves!  Plus, always remember, as members of the User Group, you have access to discounts, which we have secured for you with the agreement of Open GI, to help with Training solutions which are supplied by Open GI's own Trainers.

Option 3: Seek the advice of an independent contractor who specialises in the Open GI system and see what they can offer in terms of bespoke or pre-formatted solutions.  This might come with additional assistance in respect of placing the frames within your workflows.

Option 4: Contact your Network, if you're a member of one.  Some have already got GDPR advice and suggestions for you.  Speak to your contact.

Option 5: In association with option 3, the User Group have secured the services of an independent contractor, Mark Sollis to provide an alternative solution for capturing Consent Data. This offer includes workflow and process options all at a specially negotiated rate for User Group Members. Please contact Barbara for further information and contact details. Availability is on a first come first served basis.

It should be noted that while we have not received confirmation from Open GI that further developments to the GD frame are possible, it has not been ruled out and further feedback is being sought by Open GI before additional comment can be made.  The User Group will provide this feedback where received from Members.

With this in mind and as a additional note, there are some field links in place for the Open GI "GD" frame, which it may not be possible to recreate in your own versions without additional costs from Open GI, so bear that in mind before deciding a plan.

So, the ball is in our/your court.  Try the options above and remember, your feedback to us, is passed on to Open GI, so never be afraid to let us know what you think/how you feel.

    Yours faithfully,

    Marc Pons-Burt - National Chairman

  6. If you want to create your own Consent capture details - but don't know how to create a new data frame then this is for you.

Whilst the information can be found within the Online Guides that Open GI produce, the User Group have produced a guidance video for your assistance - press the play button on the video below.

Let us know if you find this useful - and any other topics you may want covered!

  8. Hi Karl - hope you are well.

There doesn't appear to be an option to allow posts to be deleted by members - unless you are aware of where that setting is!!

    You should be able to

    • "edit" your post - and therefore mark it as duplicate - or
    • Mail the Admin - (me  ) and we can delete

If there is a way to delete own posts that would be good - let me know if you this is set somewhere in the list of 3,000 settings ....

    Thanks

  9. Well - I've spent a little time indulging my passion for trying to "fix everything" and seem to have made some progress

    1) - Ordering

The Forum topic ordering is now consistent and should order Topics by last post made (excl. How to Use The Forum) This keeps the "new stuff" on top for all main Forums and Topics. Not sure if this is now back to "how it was" - maybe Karl can come back and let me know if it seems better now?

    2) - Fonts

Fonts are still fun - maybe problems with the mobile app version. If anyone spots a connection SHOUT ME!

    3) - New Items

The new button "View New Content" presents a list of Forum areas with new content. This maybe different now but does show all posts / replies etc with lots more options as well. You can view new items by content type (Member, Topic etc), by date range, or by other (participated Topics etc) all of which is pretty cool !

Hopefully the above helps - any more feedback please post away

  10. Hello Karl

Yes - a few annoyances definately! Obviously following the upgrade things are a bit different and I've been trying to get to the bottom of this one for a few weeks now. Even if you "save" custome settings - this seems to be Forum specific so not sure if that's the only answer.

There are some "Good" things as well - so usual swings and roundabouts - but defo on my "to-do" list.

I'll post back here with any updates, let me know if you find anything else

    Thanks!
